Wedding Toast Father of the Bride

The father of the bride can only be one person and luckily for you, it is the person reading this article. If you are unsure where to start writing your speech for your daughters' wedding or simply need a little inspiration, we will help you to capture this and teach you how to use your imagination to its fullest. We will start with the basics of what is required of you and then go on from there.

Where to start?

Your speech is important and will probably be the main one that your newlywed daughter has been waiting to hear all day. This will mean a lot to her, she only has one father and he has taken a deep breath and agreed to speak for her in front of all of your family and friends. You are in the fortunate position where you can be jovial, serious and sentimental, all within the same speech - no others have this opportunity. You must always begin with the responsible section of the speech and thank your daughter and son in laws guests for coming today and make apologies for those whom could not come due to illness or other reasons.

Heartfelt Speaking

Being the only man in your daughter's life that has had the pleasure (or displeasureI jest) of knowing her for the entirety of her life, you will literally have a lifetimes worth of stories to tell to your awaiting audience. You know her better than anyone does, you knew her before you could open her eyes, before she could speak, before she could speak and before she could fall in love. Talk about the times where you thought she might never bring home a worthy boyfriend, after meeting all of her previous so-called suitors.

But now she has found her prince so of course you will happy and proud of her. You do not need to worry about sounding soppy speaking of such things, you are her father after all, it is your given right! You could linger on old memories for as long as you wish and the audience will still be hanging off every word; it is lovely to hear these kind of subjects covered at a wedding.

The Finale

Always finish by wishing your daughter and her new husband every happiness in their future. A raising of the glasses and a heartfelt speech to their lives together will then follow this. It is also sometimes seen as being traditional to read a paragraph from a book or a phrase from a poem, which you see as being appropriate for the occasion. Often, members of the wedding party will choose to have that quote or phrase engraved onto a wedding gift for the couple and it will be remembered for years to come.
