Duties of the Father of the Bride (Part IV of Four)

The traditional duties of the Father of the Bride During the actual Wedding and Reception include:

1. Maintain a calm and loving tone in his home, in spite of tension, chaos, last minute pre-wedding jitters, and problem solving.2. Helping to make sure that the wedding and wedding reception invitations get done and mailed out six to eight weeks before the wedding.3. Offer to help out on follow calls, running errands, for you and helping to take over your wifes and anything that helps easy the tension for your daughter and your wife.4. If this going to be a do-it-yourself (DIY) wedding to you should offer to help by going out or arrange for pick up of essential items such as: decorations, wedding reception food (at place such as Costco, Wal Mart, or local deli), chairs, linens, flowers, and anything else that is needed for the wedding or the wedding reception.5. Be ready to solve any problems that arise with any of the professional wedding vendors at a professional wedding venue, such as: wedding planner, wedding venue, caterer, photographer, linen rentals, table and chai r rentals, table covers and chair covers, wedding florist, music vendors or DJ,

Official Duties at the Wedding and Wedding Reception6. The Father of the Bride (and the Mother of the Bride) are the Official Hosts for the entire Wedding and reception.7. The Father of the Bride (and the Mother of the Bride) are the Official Hosts for the Wedding Reception line.8. At Non LDS wedding, the Father of the Bride escorts his daughter down the aisle and gives her away to the groom9. The Father of the Bride will give a Speech (or at least a toast) after the Dinner (as part of the Father of the Bride speech he should specifically toast the bride and groom with a lasting love, long life and good health), and after the FOBs speech, then the Groom followed by his Best Man will give their speech or toast.10. The Father of the Bride will dance with is newly married daughter at the wedding reception (which could a Waltz, Fox Trot, Quick Step or Western, but the traditional dance is usually a Waltz (so dont panic this is not Dancing with the Stars competition).11. If th is going to be a do-it-yourself (DIY) wedding to you should offer to help to return essential items such as: decorations, tables, chairs, linens, chaffing dishes, flowers, and anything else that is needed for the wedding or the wedding reception. Make sure that all the bridal gifts were removed from the reception hall.12. The Father of the Bride should make sure that all the bills that he responsible for are accounted, reviewed and paid.13. The Father of the Bride should make sure that all the out of town guest have their accommodations set up and they know how to get to them, or have a ride to them14. See that the bride and groom are off on the way safely. 15. Stop and give your wife a long warm hung.16. Return tuxedo to tux shopping.

Special note for LDS Father of the Bride:17. LDS Father of the Bride should make sure that all the friends and family members have with them that day and that their LDS Temple Recommend is current, if they are planning on attending the LDS bride and LDS groom at their LDS Temple Sealing (LDS Wedding).18. It would be highly appropriate for the LDS Father of the Bride should touch bases to make sure that all the friends and family members are aware that the Temple Sealing is a private LDS Temple Recommend holder only event. 19. He should invite all the all the friends and family members (especially on the brides side of the family) that are not going to be attending the LDS bride and LDS groom Temple Sealing, that they are welcome and invited to come to see the bride and groom come out of the LDS Temple, as husband and wife, sealed for time and all eternity.20. He should invite all the all the friends and family members that all of them are invited to come to the bride and grooms wedding reception that will take place (not at the LDS Temple) after the LDS Wedding ceremony in the Temple, and they would be able congratulate the bride and groom, as well as see family and friends.21. The Father of the Bride should make sure that the LDS Cultural Hall (if it was used for the wedding reception) is empty, cleaned and the building locked up. We will need to return the keys or have some meet him at the building to lock it up.
